Scene:
Landon Manor.
With a grim smile, she delicately wraps the
bandage around her knee and sighs deeply. Although it had been less than a
day since she had been released from San Francisco General, Emily Landon
looks around the room with an utter feeling of accomplishment. While her
house certainly didn't receive the damage that others in the area endured,
she was glad to have everything pieced back together nicely for Steve's
arrival.
Understandably, she was somewhat worried about how her
knee injury and current mindset would affect her diligence at work.
However, if she could play on the sympathies of Steve Summers
then this
whole charade might just be worth it.
She hears footsteps in
the foyer downstairs and concludes that Steve has arrived
home. She quickly walks over to the wheelchair sitting in the corner
of the room and pulls out each leg carefully.
After a few moments
of piecing herself together, she calls out for Steve below.
"Steve,
is that you? I'm in the study upstairs!"
"Yes, Em. I'll be right
up."
Emily looks at herself one last time in the mirror and
retraces the horrific events that took place in the study nearly two years
prior...
_____________________ Overhearing their
altercation, Emily scrambled for a way to prove to Steve that Hal had
harmed her in some way. She looked around the room in
desperation before her eyes fixated on the mirror
hanging on her wall. She quickly raced towards the mirror and took a
deep breath before stopping.
"Love hurts...I sure as hell know
that..."
Suddenly Emily took the mirror and threw it to the ground,
causing it to break in large pieces. She took another deep breath before
slowly picking up a jagged piece and nearing it to her arm. She quickly
closed her eyes and winced in pain as she took the sharp edge to her arm
and made an incision. She then sat down on the floor next to the broken
mirror and held her arm in pain as the footsteps neared.
Steve
slowly opened the door to her study and ran to her aid.
"Oh my God,
Emily...what in the hell? Are you okay?" Steve gasped at the sight of the
broken mirror and her arm.
"It doesn't hurt too bad...I'm jut so frightened.
He got so angry...so angry, Steve. He was just yelling, and God knows
I can take him on...but when it came to his physical force, he just pushed
me so hard. I slammed into the mirror. My arm got cut when I was
pushed against it. Oh God Steve, tell me he is gone..." Emily responded,
her voice shaky.
---------------------- Suddenly Emily
jolts when the door opens.
"Oh Steve, it's such a wonderful
surprise again..."

Scene:
The Preston Estate.
Valerie Preston
trembles as she walks around the room in utter despair. Tears
begin to slowly form in each eye, although she musters any last strength
she has to ensure she remains calm. A cold draft soon enters the
room fill with emptiness.
This certainly wasn't the first time
Valerie had experienced such an ordeal. While she knew that seeking
help would be for the best, she simply couldn't fathom spilling her
deepest thoughts to a complete stranger. Besides, if she could articulate
what her actual problem was, shouldn't she have the ability to find a
resolution herself?
These thoughts continued swirling through her
mind as she fixated on the door. It had been hours since any sign of life
was heard at the estate. Rick was now living with Kayla and the baby
in his new home; God only knows what social event her parents could
be attending.
She knew this afternoon the feelings of emptiness
would arrive, however she tried her best to keep herself preoccupied
with other things. After reading the paper, a few shows on the tube,
and a snack later- the demons arose with new fury.
Val tried
convincing herself that with each move things would change. After nearly
three years in Boston, she realized this dream would never become a
reality. Her violent mood swings, irritability, paranoia and
inability to be alone were all too apparent. She started to lose
hope last year that these feelings would ever go away...but without one's
hope, what else was there?
Suddenly the front door opens, causing
Valerie to jump in suspicion. She quickly paces around the room
frantically as she tries to think of a way to get out. Certainly no one
could see her in this present state- even
Val couldn't muster the strength to look in the mirror.
