Scene: Jason Summers' Apt,
PACIFICA TOWERS.
The door
slowly creaks open and Diane Davison reveals herself in the entryway
before calling out for any sign of life. The apartment is cold and musty;
she bites her lip with suspicion as a quick chill runs down her spine. She
calls out for her son once more but only an eerie silence is evident.
She creeps down the main hall of the apartment and notices a
door to her right is cracked open. Although she doesn't want to
become her overbearing mother with a passion for prying, her
curiosity is piqued as she reaches for the knob and pushes slowly.
Realizing it's Jason's
room, she's torn whether she should inspect
things further or walk back out to the main living quarters. While perhaps
it would be a violation to go through his things for clues, it had been
nearly a week since she had heard from him. An embodied fear presents
itself with such determination as she begins to flip through a small
notebook lying on his nightstand.
Diane soon discovers that it's
his journal and quickly looks behind her, as if she has to validate that
she's alone once again. She quickly peruses the various entries and
eventually finds the most recent entry. It's a poem that he composed just
this week.
Her eyes grow wide with fear as her heart instantaneously
sinks. The poem is so dark and presents a dreary end to the pain he
had been living with. The worst consumes each thought as she fears
for the worst. Could her son truly have taken his own
life?
Suddenly a figure emerges from behind her and a
familiar voice demands what she is up to. A startled Diane jumps as
she puts one hand over her mouth and sighs deeply.
"Jason."
"Were you expecting anyone else?" Jason takes a
step forward, breathing heavily. "What in the hell are you doing here?"

Scene: The
Summers Estate.
Kimberly Summers stands in the doorway
frozen as she scans each wall in the study for any large cracks. She takes
a deep sigh in disbelief as she realizes the quake had been truly
relentless with its attack on the estate.
Her Father and the
contractor in charge of giving them a final estimate will arrive at any
moment. She shakes her head in frustration as she makes her way back
to the head of the house and watches for any vehicles pulling up the
driveway- or at least what was left of the driveway.
She wanted so
badly to run and turn her back on the entire situation. It would be so
easy for her to return to her condo on Pac Boulevard, an address that
certainly didn't receive the extensive damage the estate had received.
However, the conflict she had with leaving things behind grew within like
a cancer as she realized she couldn't dump everything on her Father. Steve
had, after all, given her full control of the estate after his divorce
from Diane.
While she felt a sense of responsibility now for the
home, a large part of her was apt to believe that Steve had simply thrown
this mess in her lap. While he couldn't have expected such an ordeal to
occur, he had to have realized that Kimberly was still young and not the
best equipped to deal with such a situation.
As she continued
mulling over the reasons why Steve would choose to give her such
responsibility, especially after all the headaches she had created, she
noticed her Father turn onto the street.
The time was now or
never. She could either face the situation at hand and choose to help with
the renovation of the estate- or she could lash out at her Father and run.
As each moment went by, the latter seemed much more appealing.
