The Missing Years (2004-2009)

With the series returning in the fall of 2009, there is a lot to be shared for the time that South Beach was on hiatus. Time certainly did not stop for anyone, and during these years we see unpredictable trials, heartfelt returns, newfound deception and internal growth for many.

After it was revealed that Penny would gain control of Crawford Corp., Sam did his best to move on and not let such affect his position and various agendas. He was still President of the company and realized he still had a lot of the control over various operations. The greatest shock would come from a clause in Eugene's will that only allowed Sam and the family to reside at the Crawford Mansion if he and Monica worked things out. That being said, if Monica and Sam divorced, the family would all have to leave the property.

Now forced to continue their loveless marriage, Monica went on a passionate crusade to bring her cosmetic company to the top... of course she would run into hurdles galore as Penny opposed many of the business and marketing tactics that Monica proposed. Eventually the two would have such a falling out that the two stopped speaking entirely and, for a time, the Company closed its doors. Monica and Penny would eventually come to an understanding and the company reopened its doors in the fall of 2006.

Kaylee, meanwhile, would grow distant and often would seem withdrawn from the family during the many get-togethers the Crawford clan would have during the year. Desperate to know why his daughter was slipping away, Sam urged Kaylee to join him to see a therapist so they could mend their relationship. The two would soon join privately in therapy sessions as Kaylee revealed that she had struggled with deep depression for some time and couldn't pinpoint the exact event that prompted these depressions. Kaylee would also reveal that she had lost control over some of her emotions and that her moods seemed to become unstable over time. She was soon diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and Kaylee and Sam would keep this to themselves. To this day, Sam is the only one in the family who knows what his daughter is truly going through. After all, it was later revealed that he had struggled with depression as well.

Adam would soon face trouble himself as he grew closer to a new friend, Brian Hart. At first Tony and Adam were happy that they had found another gay couple to befriend (Noah and Brian), but jealousy soon arose and it would be revealed that Brian was growing a deeper bond with Adam. Still unable to believe that Adam would ever cheat, Tony didn't mind the two constantly being together. In fact, the friendship gave Tony the ability to be on his own more which was what he truly needed at the time.

However, the group would soon dissolve when Adam and Brian made a choice they would instantly regret. On one night when Tony was away for business, Adam invited Brian over to watch movies and drink. The two eventually would begin to cuddle, and from there, more would ensue. The next morning when Brian and Adam awoke, they instantly knew that they had made a decision that could tear both of their respective relationships apart. Noah would surely break things off with Brian if he ever suspected a thing and Tony wouldn't be as forgiving either.

One night when Adam was drinking alone and Tony was yet again out of town, he called Noah and confessed everything. He couldn't stand to tell Tony at the time, but he knew that he needed to unload the great weight that was on his heart at the time. Although he loved Tony with all his heart, he realized the decision was one that wasn't fair to Tony nor Noah, and that the truth would have to come out. To Brian's shock, Noah instantly confronted Brian about the situation and when Brian lied, Noah had enough and kicked his boyfriend to the curb. In a rage, Noah began to throw all of Brian's things onto the front porch and told him that there would be no chance at a reconciliation.

Next, Noah would go to Tony and reveal what their lovers had done. Tony would instantly go into denial and accused Noah of making it up as well as having a jealousy over Adam and Tony's solid relationship. Tony would soon come home and mentioned what he had heard from Noah. To his horror, Adam confessed everything and begged for forgiveness.

Tony would soon disappear again, leaving Adam an emotional mess. Months went by as Adam feared he would never hear from Tony again. However, to Adams surprise, Tony would eventually return and informed Adam that he was giving him another shot. He revealed that while the alcohol couldn't be the whole blame for what they had done, he realized the loneliness that Adam could have gone through due to his absences. Adam was truly ecstatic that he would be given another chance...In the fall of 2007, nearly seven years after the couple first met, Tony proposed to Adam. He would quickly accept and the two planned a celebration where they would have their family and friends attend. Eventually they would also fly to San Francisco in the summer of 2008 upon the legalization of gay marriage in California. They were wed at the City Hall and when the two came back, they began discussion of having a child.

Meanwhile, Noah certainly wasn't as forgiving, and while he and Brian are once again exploring things, there is a complete lack of trust on Noah's part that will create many hurdles for the two in the future.

Lindsey Coleson continued to work closely with Barbara as she threw herself into the design company. It was, after all, the only thing she could do after realizing that Monica would play a part in their lives as long as she was married to Bo. In 2006, however, Lindsey was faced with shock and horror when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. At the age of fifty-three, Lindsey realized that she could be looking at her last days and instantly fell into a depression. Not even telling Barbara or her husband, Lindsey would keep the cancer a secret from everyone for quite some time. Eventually she would break down and reveal what she was going through to the shock of her loved ones.

Within a year, Lindsey had completed chemotherapy and went under the knife to have part of her right breast removed. She was soon met with good news when it was revealed that all of the cancer was gone. While her loved ones soon celebrated, Lindsey silently went on with the deep fear that it would one day return...and that next time she wouldn't be so lucky.

Bo and Monica continued to battle over the custody of Sarah. Bo pleaded to the judge that Monica was an unfit mother due to the many antics she had pulled in the years past. Monica, on the other hand, defended herself by saying that Bo couldn't offer a safe environment for Sarah to be raised, being that he was in the midst of a battle with the Maravalli Mob and other scum of South Beach.

The two eventually came to terms that they would have to share custody of Sarah. To Lindsey and Sam's frustration, Monica and Bo would have to continue their shared parenting of the beautiful young girl who was now in elementary school.

Mel Tannenburg would eventually immerse herself into the quest to put all of SB's criminals behind bars. This meant that her personal life would have to take a back seat. She soon would part ways with Terrell after becoming pregnant and miscarrying. A deep depression would ensue after learning she had miscarried; she tried her best to throw herself into her work. For some time, Mel would wake up in a deep sweat as she continuously had nightmares about the miscarriage and heard a screaming baby.
