Diane/ Steve/ Emily/ Hal When the series commenced, problems were arising quickly in Steve and Diane's marriage. Indeed, the same problems that had persisted for years seemed to sear with a new intense flame. Most notably, the primary torch would come in the name of Emily Landon, a wealthy heiress that had always had an infatuation with Steve and was determined to regain his love. At the time, Emily had recently married business tycoon Hal McCullough, a middle-aged man whom had made his millions in smart financial investments. Of course, just like everything that Emily does in life, there is always a hidden agenda. This one came in the form of Emily's seduction and hand for marriage as long as he took a great deal of stock into Landon Points Publishing Corp. Blind sighted and never realizing how manipulative Emily could be, he went through with whatever she suggested and thus a new business partnership was formed. All the while, Emily never lost focus of her one true aspiration– winning the affections of Steve Summers. This was the same man she had dated nearly twenty-five years prior, and yet was forbidden to ever see him while her Father was alive- reasons her Father had never disclosed. Of course, since her Father's passing, one of Emily's greatest strides came in the form of hiring Steve in a high-profile executive level position at her company. Her constant antics to wedge Diane out of his life ensued- of course, Diane was dealing with her own internal demons. Primarily her reliance for alcohol when stress mounted; additionally, the problems that continued with her sociopath daughter Kimberly and the overwhelming stress that mounted at work. Being Editor-in-Chief of a paper owned by Emily Landon's company meant constant hassle and ridiculous intervening by Emily herself. One evening the stress mounted to an all-time high, and when Steve came home, they both took no prisoners. The two argued uncontrollably while Diane was preparing dinner. The next moment before either knew, blood began pouring from Diane's hand as she cut herself deeply without realizing. Moments later Diane fell to the floor and Steve rushed her to the hospital. While Diane quickly recovered in the hospital, Steve took the opportunity to express to doctors that Diane had cut herself purposely and was having a breakdown. Confiding in Emily about such gave Emily the perfect ammunition to antagonize Diane further when she returned to work. During this time, Hal began to see through the façade that Emily delivered each of her speeches in. After serious questioning and observations, he had realized that Emily had only married him for the business opportunity and decided to play her at her own game. While Hal had been traveling between New York (Where his Business Headquarters resided) and California, he gave Emily an ultimatum that she couldn't have bargained for. He express that if she wanted his stock in the company to remain intact that he would relocate to Landon Manor permanently- being by Emily’s side constantly and even having a role in her company; or, if she chose to live separately like they had, he would pull all stock and culminate any business partnership that remained. Completely caught off guard by his ultimatum, she decided to allow him to stay at the Manor full-time and granted him Executive privileges within the company. She would express to Steve that such would be a temporary fix and that she would figure something out to rid them of his presence as soon as she could. Things would intensify in a meeting between Emily, Hal, Steve, Diane and a few others who held selected positions in the company. It would be here that Diane would finally stand up for herself, completely putting Emily in her place in front of all. In defense, as well as to create more tension between Diane and Steve, Emily relieved Diane of her position with the Press and repositioned her in the marketing division where she would have to answer to Steve, being directly under his control. She knew this would not sit well with either, and her plot to create another wedge would grow. In the subsequent months, tension mounted more so between Emily and Hal. Desperate to find a way to dispose of him, she sought the aid of Steve and gained his sympathy after constantly lying about harsh things Hal had said and done to her. As Steve's anger climbed, he eventually threatened Hal that if he ever laid a hand upon Emily he wouldn’t be able to count his remaining breaths. The climax occurred when Emily propelled herself into a Mirror, causing her to have many cuts and bruises and called upon Steve to rescue her when she stated that Hal was trying to kill her. Livid, Steve came to Emily's rescue and had an altercation with Hal. Moments later, Hal stormed off and Steve and Emily eventually fled the Manor to go elsewhere. When they returned, Kayla Landon (Emily’s niece) was standing above Hal's lifeless body in cold shock. The authorities soon came and Emily, Steve and Kayla would all go down as the primary suspects. Eventually, a letter was found that eluded to a self infliction and all were acquitted of any charges. Still to this day though, it lies to be a true mystery of how Hal McCullough really died… Not wanting to tarnish the Landon name, Emily was soon eager to cast the spotlight elsewhere. She would find this to be the opportune time to bring more destruction into Diane Summers' life. Still desperate to win back Steve for herself, she needed something that was sure to wedge the two apart. She found the perfect answer by tracking down Diane's mother, Helen Davison, whom resided in Florida. After bribing a money-hungry Helen, she learned that Diane had conceived a daughter when she was eighteen. The daughter, named Ashley, had been raised entirely be Helen in Florida and had never known of Diane's existence. She instantly booked the two flights to return to Pacifica Heights and lied once again when she said that Diane was dying of a medical condition and needed a blood transfusion by a family member. Helen quickly jumped aboard, simply telling Ashley that they needed to go back to visit some family. Unbeknownst to Ashley, she would soon come face-to-face with the Mother she had thought to be dead...and Diane's world would surely be shaken when her family learned that she had a past they had never known about…
Kayla/ Rick/ Kimberly Due to insecurities of her own accord, Kimberly Summers never took a liking to Kayla Landon. Kayla, The young heiress with an eye for design, instantly saw the animosity that arose each time Kimberly would enter the room. One day in the early Fall, a dashing young lawyer entered the Boutique looking for lingerie for a friend. Kayla, whom instantly though the attractive young "pretty boy" was gay, toyed with him that it was truly something for himself. While the two had a good laugh, Rick assured her he was indeed straight and wanted to prove It by sweeping her off her feet with a romantic dinner. The two exchanged numbers and went along with their respective days with a constant giddy smile. Kimberly, whom had witnessed the scene, decided to intervene and take things into her own hands. After obtaining the number that Kayla had placed on her desk, Kimberly called Rick and set up a time for them to meet at Chez Rendezvous. Completely unbeknownst to Kayla, Rick went to the restaurant one night and waited...and waited...while Kayla never showed. Kimberly, of course, was glad to conveniently show up at the restaurant and approached Rick, asking him why he looked so down. The two would mingle for awhile, Kimberly trying her hardest to win his affections for herself. Rick went home, disappointed and frustrated that Kayla had supposedly stood him up. Weeks later the two would coincidentally run into each other down PACIFICA BLVD., and the two pieced things together and realized what had occurred. Livid at the situation, Kayla confronted Kimberly and warned her to stay out of her life for good. Kayla and Rick would have more problems arise as their affections for each other grew. Upon revealing that she was seeing the young Lawyer, her Aunt Emily instantly became angered and forbid her from seeing anyone with the "Preston name." The two soon realized that there was a deeply rooted bitter feud between the two families. Still hopeful that love would prevail, the two continued dating and became closer. Eventually the two decided to take matters into their own hands and investigated the feud for themselves. Upon breaking into his Father’s office, Rick learned that Jonathan had kept receipts of old checks that he deposited into a trust under the name of "Miles Landon." Completely baffled why his Father would be giving money to a family he despised, Rick revealed his findings to Kayla and inquired who "Miles Landon" even was. A tearful Kayla stated that Miles was her Father whom had passed away nearly ten years ago. Memories began to storm and Kayla began to shut down. Kayla eventually would confront her aunt Emily regarding the trust and Jonathan Preston's deposits. Finally Emily revealed that Miles had been killed in a car accident at the hands of Jonathan- adding fuel to the fiery feud between the families. Realizing that the man she loved was the son of her Father's "murderer", Kayla began to shut down even more and distanced herself from Rick. During this breakdown, Hal McCullough would be found dead at Landon Manor- found none other than by the bloody hands of Kayla Landon. Desperate to believe that Kayla had nothing to do with the murder, Rick raced to Kayla’s aid and supported her as the accusations ensued. When a letter was found which eluded that Hal McCullough actually committed suicide, the two were relieved that everything was finally over, and ultimately, the two became closer. In recent months, Kimberly has tried her best to apologize to both Rick and Kayla for the grief she caused– convincing them that she had turned over a new leaf. However, while Rick might be quick to accept her apology as his relationship with Kayla is solidified, Kayla is still quite hesitant to believe a word that comes out of Kimberly’s mouth.
Jason/ Keith These two young men didn’t meet in the most peaceful of ways. Speeding down BEACH STREET, Jason wasn't paying attention to the road– or other drivers for that matter. Out of nowhere, his car came to a stop when he plowed into the back of Keith Michaels’ BMW– the tennis star that Jason had become infatuated with for over two years. Embarrassed and flustered, Jason promised to take care of any damages and the men exchanged numbers. The two would soon meet at a local Café to discuss the damage– incidentally, it was a night that Jason was reading his poetry and Keith was instantly intrigued. The two men got lost in conversation for the better part of two hours before realizing they were quite intrigued in one another. The two would run into each other by chance at the University before setting up additional times to hang out. One night, a fearful Jason leaned in to kiss Keith, and surprisingly Keith didn't pull back. After a few moments though, Keith began to freak out and sped off into the night. Believing that he had ruined his chances with the one man he cared so much about, Jason was heartbroken and returned to his home to retreat. Unexpectedly, he would hear from Keith again that week- in fact, Keith expressed that he needed to see Jason and talk. The two young men conversed, Jason realizing how sheltered Keith's world had truly been. Coming from an extremely conservative Midwestern town, Jason knew that he would have to grant Keith space and time if he wanted things to work out. While Keith was still trying to figure himself out, Jason was given a huge blow when his sister Kimberly decided to out him to his parents and their friends at the 2007 New Years Gala. Shocked and hurt, Steve and Diane didn’t know how to react– causing Jason to believe they didn't approve of him as their son. After weeks of secluding himself in his room, he finally had a confrontation with his parents and they expressed everything they had felt. Jason knew it might be a long process in educating his parents of what he was actually going through, but decided to take on the challenge nonetheless. After mixed signals ensued on Keith's part and anxiety persisted, Jason expressed to Keith that while it may be hard, coming out to someone would ease a lot of the tension and fear he lived in. After breaking down himself, Keith decided to tell his Aunt Star about his feelings– to his complete shock, his quite liberal Aunt said she had suspected such and began joking with him instantly about it. The two would soon find another hurdle when Star Michaels, whom had been an old family friend of Diane's, decided that the four of them (Diane, Star, Keith and Jason) should go to dinner together. While the dinner was awkward enough for Diane, her amount of anxiety could never full reach what Keith and Jason were experiencing as Star rambled on with gay jokes and eluded to the men's sexual lives multiple times. Keith is now beginning to accept his feelings and their relationship is growing stronger. Recently Jason has become more persistent that the two make the next step and make love- of course, Keith lies in complete fear of uncharted waters he has never embarked upon.
